Founded in 1980 as WEST COAST INDUSTRIAL COATINGS, INC. by Mr. Tim Selby, the Paso Robles, CA facility began performing both shop and field coatings for San Luis Piping Construction Co., Inc.. Serving primarily the above ground storage tank (AST) market, WCIC had established itself as a technically capable, quality conscious industrial coatings contractor. Shortly after its formation, Mr. Ron Hogeland joined WCIC as its General Manager and infused it with expertise from his many years in the trade.
In 1991 Matrix Service Company purchased San Luis Piping Construction Co., Inc. and West Coast Industrial Coatings, Inc. to become involved in water storage tanks on the West Coast. WCIC continued providing coatings and coatings expertise to San Luis Piping Construction and other customer during this time with four field crews and the shop roto-blast operation. In 1999, Matrix sold WCIC back to its principals, and just one short year later, in 2000, Paso Robles Tank, Inc. was formed, filling the space that San Luis Piping Construction once occupied. Working side-by-side with PRT, WCIC provided all of PRT’s coatings for its field operations along with its own AST repair/recoating projects.
In 2006, Mr. Larry Wombles purchased PRT and the company began to grow. A second shop facility was opened in Hemet, CA in 2008. WCIC was then purchased from Mr. Hogeland by Mr. Wombles in 2009. In 2010 Mr. Randy Gordon joined WCIC as its President while Mr. Hogeland was preparing for retirement. Sadly, shortly after this transaction, in 2011, Mr. Hogeland, lost his battle with cancer and passed away.
Around this period in time, a rigorous and comprehensive quality program was put into place and WCIC became more active within SSPC, placing its personnel through many of the course offerings whilst hosting many of these training programs in its new Hemet facility. SSPC Certified WCIC as a QP-1 & QP-2 contractor in 2010 and 2011 respectively (The SSPC QP program is a nationally recognized program that evaluates the practices of industrial painting contractors in key areas of business.)
Although its main focus is AST’s, WCIC’s coating division performs a full range of abrasive blasting and coatings application to complex industrial structures, architectural elements, concrete tanks/secondary containment structures and water/wastewater treatment applications.
